Cruelly abandoned in a cage in a car park, this little dog was a serious issue.

Found in a crate in a parking lot in Tennessee, USA, this French Bulldog had only a bowl of tuna for company.

At first glance, the little dog has an adorable face and an irresistible look, so why did she end up like this? After being taken to the vet by the kind soul who found her, it became clear that she was hiding a secret that may explain her tragic fate.

Urgent veterinary care

At the clinic, the veterinary team quickly noticed several issues during the initial examination. The two-and-a-half-year-old French Bulldog was struggling to move properly, dragging her hind legs, and had a hematoma on one ear.

After a thorough examination, the serious diagnosis was revealed: the dog had two herniated discs and would require complex surgery to potentially regain her mobility. Faced with this grave situation, the vet reached out to the Tails of Hope Dog Rescue organisation for support and funding.

Unable to turn away from an animal in distress, the organisation agreed to take responsibility for the dog and decided to name her Odette. The surgery, which cost $9,000, was carried out after an online fundraiser helped Tails of Hope Dog Rescue cover the veterinary expenses.

Hope for the future

While herniated discs are a common issue for this breed, the exact cause in this Bulldog's case remains unknown. Thankfully, Odette was taken in by an experienced foster family to aid in her recovery.

Once fully recovered from surgery, Odette will face a long rehabilitation process to rebuild her muscle strength and mobility.

Hopefully, one day, she will be able to frolic once more with a loving family who will never abandon her at the first sign of difficulty.
