Charlie is a mischievous young Bernese Mountain Dog who nearly met a tragic end.
On 30 December 2024, the pup went out for a short walk with the family's other dog, but when it was time to call the two animals back, he did not return with his companion.
Missing dog
Worried, his owners immediately began searching for him by driving around the area, but their beloved dog was nowhere to be found.
Without wasting time, the couple realised they needed to call in a professional to give themselves the best chance of finding their dog as soon as possible.
After contacting two companies that offered this type of service, Charlie's owners crossed their fingers and hoped that one of the professionals would be able to bring their dog back to them.
While surveying the area around the home with a camera-equipped drone, one of the professionals spotted a dark shape in a field of tall grass after 45 minutes. Upon zooming in, they realised it was indeed the missing dog.
Found but injured
When they arrived on the scene, Charlie's owners found their dog, but the pup was injured: he had a broken femur, which was likely why no one had seen him for over a week. Without the use of a drone, the poor dog might never have made it out of this ordeal alive.
After being taken to a veterinarian, he was able to undergo surgery to get back on his feet. To fund the necessary medical expenses, Charlie's owners launched an online fundraiser that was a resounding success: over $5,000 was raised to help this family treat their adorable dog.
