When members of the public spotted a cat stuck on the roof of Southend shopping centre, they immediately raised the alarm.
Councillor Mandy O'Connor contacted cat charity Cat Lady TNR, who knew exactly what they needed to do.
An expert rescue mission
"On Friday evening we had a phone call from councillor Mandy O'Connor explaining that she'd been informed about a cat stuck on the shopping centre roof", explained the charity founder Melissa Firrell.
"The reports were that the cat had been up there for a few weeks, and obviously won't come down and can't come down because of the height".
Essex County Fire and Rescue had done their best to assist, but the cat kept disappearing out of reach. In the end, it took a joint rescue effort to bring him to safety.
Safely reunited
With the help of the rescue service, the charity placed a trap cage on the ledge of the shopping centre.
Tired of chasing pigeons on the ledge, the tempting cat food was just too much to resist, and it wasn't long before he had been trapped.
Having been carefully lowered to safety, the rescue team got to work.
They scanned the runaway for a microchip, and were thrilled to discover his details were up to date.
It turned out the cat's name was Loki. He was a much loved pet who had gone missing on the 3rd of September.
Over a month later, the mischievous moggie was reunited with his delighted owner.
