The family contacted AnimÔ 31 to surrender their five-month-old kitten, citing financial constraints, space issues, and the mistaken belief that the kitten was in heat.
The kitten, in fact, had a severe urinary infection, not a reproductive cycle issue and required urgent medical treatment.
Adoption request
Three days later, AnimÔ 31 was startled to receive another message from the family, now interested in adopting a dog they had seen advertised on the group's Facebook page.
The association, outraged, posted a public message online: "So, we abandon a kitten on Friday and on Monday we adopt a dog... Everything is fine... No shame."
Not surprisingly, the rescue declined the family's request.
National registry
The shelter has since highlighted the need for a national registry to track people who abandon pets. Many animal welfare groups believe such a measure could prevent irresponsible adoptions and better protect animals in need.
What do you think? Was the rescue right to reject the family's adoption request?
