A tabby cat with white paws, who had been seen wandering the neighbourhood, confidently approached her.
Unlike most typical strays, this cat, later named Boots, showed no fear, meowing back and climbing into her lap.
Instant love
Eller, who had little experience with cats, was surprised by his immediate affection.
Despite opposition from her family, she and her mother spent time with Boots outdoors until a colder day led her grandmother to invite him inside.
Boots quickly became part of the family, finding comfort after being abandoned by his previous owners.
Cruelly abandoned
Heartbreakingly, he had been left to fend for himself after they got a puppy. Despite this, Boots remained incredibly trusting and loving toward humans.
Over the next seven years, Boots became an integral part of Eller's life, bringing joy to not just her but everyone he met. "He's become a source of endless emotional support," Eller said, adding that she couldn't imagine life without him.
For Boots, home is now where the heart is, right beside Eller, his new family, and anyone who crosses his path.
