Agreeing to help a rescue in need, this volunteer came away with more than expected. Things may not have gone to plan, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

Jennifer is a passionate volunteer with the Hamilton Humane Society, regularly stepping in to help kittens in need.

A change of plan

Once at the shelter, things took a very unexpected turn.

Jennifer locked eyes with Josephine, a young female cat who had been abandoned heavily pregnant. The caring volunteer knew she couldn't leave the tabby girl behind. She immediately made space for her and brought her home.

The sweetest surprise

Just three days after her arrival, Josephine gave birth to four adorable kittens.

Initially, she was very protective of her babies, but she never showed any signs of aggression towards Jennifer.

The kittens were named Cannellini, Lini, Pinto and Garbanzo. Full of energy, these fluffy bundles of happiness have most certainly been keeping their foster carer on her toes!

For the time being, both kittens and mum will live with Jennifer, who carefully monitors them and ensures they have everything they need. Once they're old enough, they will be put up for adoption through their original rescue.

And thanks to the quick thinking of Jennifer, they've had the best possible start in life before they find their forever families!
