Giuseppe, a severely neglected dog, was found in a backyard cage, hidden beneath an overwhelming mass of matted fur. When rescuers laid eyes on him, they gasped. The fur was so dense that it was difficult to identify him as a dog, with only his lips visible through the tangled mane.
Immediate medical attention
Recognising the situation's urgency, the shelter's medical team sprang into action. Giuseppe was in obvious pain, unable to see or move comfortably under the weight of his fur.
To alleviate his distress, a shelter member administered a sedative and began the painstaking process of shaving him. It took an hour to free him from the pounds of fur, revealing the dog beneath.
Upon waking, Giuseppe was visibly surprised. For the first time in a long while, he could see and feel his surroundings without discomfort. He spent hours simply taking in his new environment.
Ongoing recovery
Giuseppe's journey to recovery is far from over. He suffers from obesity and hypothyroidism, which hampers his metabolism. Despite these challenges, the dedicated team at Española Humane is committed to his rehabilitation.
