Cat owner can't believe what happens after he installs 'unescapable' fence rollers

An owner hoped that installing cat-proof fence rollers could keep their Bengal cats safely contained in the garden. But the clever cats had other ideas.

A Reddit post, now viral with over 26,000 upvotes and 1,100 comments, shows two Bengal cats in a backyard seemingly contained by tall fencing.

Fence versus cats

Given that cats can jump between 5 to almost 7 feet, the owner added 'unescapable fence rollers' for extra security. These rollers, designed to spin when a cat grabs onto them, are meant to thwart climbing attempts by causing the cat to lose its grip and drop back down.

Initially, the rollers appeared effective as the cats' attempts to scale the fence failed repeatedly. However, the determined Bengals were not easily deterred.

After carefully observing the mechanism, one of the cats devised a way to work around it. By pausing just before the roller, the cat was able to reach over it and grasp the stable fence post. The owner captured this moment on video and quickly intervened to prevent the cat from escaping.

Determined felines

Reddit users were amused and impressed by the cats' persistence. "It looks like the rollers do work, but so does your cat's persistence," one user commented. Another noted, "Lmao the slow-mo at the end as the camera shakes from the person running to grab the cat."

Fence rollers, typically made with long tubing and inner supports that spin when touched, are generally effective for fences over 6 feet tall. However, they may not cover every gap, allowing particularly determined cats to find an escape route.

Here's the hilarious clip:
