Shelter staff try to make the dogs in their care as happy as possible, but nothing cheers this chronically sad dog. But then something wonderful happened.

Part of working at a shelter is giving the dogs the best life possible while they wait to find their forever homes. But for shelter staff, it broke their hearts every time they saw Guapo's sad face.

Permanent sadness

Not all dogs cope with being in a shelter. Like Guapo the pitbull, they all want a real home they can call their own. Every day, staff would see Guapo's despair at never finding a loving home written on his face. His permanent look of sadness was heartbreaking, so the staff at the shelter decided to go the extra mile to help the lovely dog's dreams come true.

The staff took to Facebook to share a photo of Guapo, hoping someone would fall in love with him and come forward to adopt him.

And it worked.

Happy ever after

Soon after the photo was posted, the shelter was inundated with enquiries about the adorable pup. While several people came to meet Guapo, one special family decided they wanted to adopt him.

When the day finally came for Guapo to go to his forever home, he still looked desperately sad. Perhaps he couldn't believe that his dream had come true. But once he arrived at his new home, it didn't take him long to start exploring and making the most of his new garden.

A follow-up video shows Guapo, now called Rosco, playing in the garden and excitedly licking his new owner's face. He was finally living his best life, and more importantly, he had finally found his smile. The video ends with a wonderful photo of the adorable dog grinning from ear to ear.

That's the magic of adoption.
