Akira is currently waiting in kennels in Rotherham for her forever home. She was originally rescued from the streets of Cyprus and taken in by the local shelter, and travelled to the UK in September where we were excited to place her in a foster home. Through no fault of her own, her foster’s circumstances sadly changed and Akira found herself in kennels, but actually she’s adapted really well! She’s a complete love bug and super fun, so we can’t wait to find her the permanent home she deserves.
Akira is almost two years old and is without a doubt one of the prettiest dogs on the planet. She has a beautiful coat and gorgeous eyes, so it’s no wonder everyone who visits the kennels to volunteer and walk the dogs falls in love with her. Based on her temperament, we think that Akira might be a mix of Spaniel/Setter, and maybe some Collie, although they’re uncommon in Cyprus.
Akira is a high energy dog and is always on the go when outdoors. She loves to explore and investigate everything nose first, and is super scent driven. She would be incredibly good at scent-work or man-trailing and we would really encourage her new family to explore these enrichment options for her. It will be a fun and brilliant bonding exercise and really work her mentally!
Akira adores people. She is a social butterfly and very confident around humans, even those she doesn’t really know. She loves cuddles, strokes, belly rubs and head massages, and gets very excited to socialise with anyone who will show her attention. Indoors, she loves to play with her toys, especially soft ones that she can shake and throw around the room. She loves a snuffle mat, but can sometimes be picky about which treats she likes - now she’s off the streets she demands only the finest!
Akira could live anywhere due to her level of confidence and adaptability, but would be happiest outside of the city where she has lots of parks and fun places to explore nearby. Her recall absolutely will be a work in progress, and she needs a bit more work on loose lead walking too as she’s just so excited to get out that she can pull quite a bit, so you need a little strength behind you to manage that! This behaviour is definitely trainable, especially with more outlets for her scenting and exploring, and with continued routine. We would also prefer a home with a garden for Akira, and she needs an active lifestyle.
Akira has previously lived alongside other dogs and interacts nicely enough with them, but she would be happiest as the only dog in the household. She can be a bit of a princess and loves to be the centre of attention, so a home where she can be the apple of someone’s eye would be ideal for her. Homes with other dogs can of course be considered if the dogs get along, but you’d need to meet her in person first. Akira is friendly with children and we’d be comfortable with her living with kids aged 8+ due to her bouncy nature, but she is super soppy really and would just love a fuss from anyone and everyone. She is not suitable for a home with cats based on her prey drive. Without a doubt this girl is going to make someone so happy and bring so much fun into her new home!
Akira is currently based in Rotherham and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to meet her new family as soon as possible!
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
