Xenia was rescued from the confines of a public shelter in Bosnia after being plucked from the streets by one of the local dog catchers. The public shelters are horrendous environments for dogs to end up in, and many of them die there without the intervention from other rescue organisations. Xenia was one of the fortunate ones.
Unfortunately, shortly after being adopted in the UK, her family felt she would be better suited to a home with older children due to her size alongside their four year old. Aside from this, they have complimented Xenia’s temperament and believe she is a wonderful dog who will become an amazing companion in a different environment. She is now looking for a new home.
Xenia is a very sociable, human oriented dog who loves being in the company of people. She is affectionate, loves to snuggle on the sofa, and there’s not a single bad bone in her body, but as she’s not completely aware of her size and can get over-excited, we feel a home with older children would be more appropriate. She’s always friendly towards people she meets on walks and is happy to say hi in the hope she might get a stroke!
Xenia spent six months in a shelter where she had daily interactions with other dogs, so we feel she could live alongside another resident pup. She can be a little unsure when meeting new dogs, especially if they are quite hyperactive, but she just needs to get to know them. At the moment she is living as the only dog in the house, but shares her home with resident cats. As she is 20kg, if she’s to live with cats again they must be confident cats that are comfortable living with dogs.
Xenia would prefer an active home with a family who are often outside, going for long walks or adventuring in the countryside. Xenia has plenty of stamina to keep up and loves, loves, loves being outdoors. We have also discovered that she doesn’t really like to toilet in the garden. This could potentially change if Xenia’s new home has a bigger garden, but it is something to bear in mind. She does like to dig in the garden instead though!
Xenia is food motivated and clever, especially if there’s treats to be had. She has learned to walk well on the lead, she is house trained, crate trained, and has already learned sit, come, lay down, shake/paw, and bedtime. She also shows no signs of separation anxiety. She responds really well to positive reinforcement with food as the reward and could definitely continue learning new tricks and commands, but in true Shepherd dog style she does have a stubborn streak too.
Xenia is definitely looking for a sociable home where she is involved in everything, enjoys an active lifestyle and has lots of people and love surrounding her. She would struggle in a home where she was left alone for long periods of time, or had a relaxed lifestyle - she wants to be out doing things, spending time with people and exploring. She would be a brilliant travelling partner, and she also travels well in the car.
Xenia is currently based in Cleveland, North East England, and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to meet her new forever family as soon as possible.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
