🐾 Meet Ice, a small and endearing 5-year-old boy weighing 7.8 kilos. Despite being deaf, in the five weeks Ice has been with his current caregiver, glimpses of his happy spirit have emerged. While he hasn't fully embraced playfulness yet, Ice has shown a tremendous capacity for love and affection. He is full of kisses and adores being close to his human, greeting each morning with excitement and joy. 🐾

Personality and Preferences:
Ice is a gentle and loving companion who thrives on knowing what people are doing and being close to them. He enjoys exploring his favorite staring spots in the garden 🌿 and indulging in captivating scents 🌼. Ice is still quite cautious and uncertain about life, but with time and patience, he is sure to blossom.

Car Rides and Adventures:
🚗 Car rides are a challenge for Ice. He is not fond of getting in or out of cars, especially when he doesn't know where he's headed. Ice is particularly fearful of the boot area, often flattening himself and freezing. Traveling with him for reassurance is key, as even walking past parked cars can be troubling for him.

Toilet and Lead Training:
🚶‍♂️ Ice is toilet trained but may not always make his needs clear. He does best with regular outings, especially when the door is closed. He can pull on the long line during walks and has a fast trot, making him best suited for an adopter who can keep up with his pace. Street walks can be challenging due to his uncertainties, but he is making progress with lead and long line cues.

Training and Commands:
📚 Ice is still learning basic commands and is currently uncomfortable with being lured into positions like sit or down. He responds well to steady, settle, and calm down cues, and is building a reliable hand target. Most of his training has focused on acclimating him to daily life and new experiences at a slow and positive pace.

Crate Training:
🛏️ Ice is not crate trained but will choose to settle in an open crate near his human. He is petrified of the crate door being moved.

Behavioral Insights:
⚠️ Ice is a complex little lad. In the wrong hands, he could bite out of defense when feeling uncertain or scared. He needs an adopter who can recognize his signals and provide reassurance. He is particularly sensitive to fast movements, grooming equipment, and unexpected changes. Ice has shown improvement in trusting his current caregiver's judgment and signs, and he needs someone who can continue building this trust. Ice has anxieties about so many things. Reassurance, space, careful exposure help him.

Interactions with People:
👥 Ice is still wary of visitors, often barking and showing raised hackles. He has made progress with familiar faces but remains cautious. Ice is especially sensitive to men who have been drinking alcohol, likely due to past experiences.

Relationship with Children, dogs and cats:
👶 Ice has shown a fondness for the caregiver's almost 5-year-old grandson, who is well-trained around dogs. Ice seems to enjoy the company of calm and understanding children. However, it is important to note that at times, ice may nip clothes or tug on them. Ice can live with some other dogs but shows little to no interest in them within the home. However they need to be small/medium sized and calm, with slow monitored interactions. Ice would need a cat free home as he does chase cats.

Ideal Home:
🏡 Ice needs a patient and understanding adopter who can provide a calm and reassuring environment. He would thrive with someone who appreciates his affectionate nature and can help him build confidence. A home without excessive noise or sudden changes would be ideal. Ice will need a home that is willing to do multiple meets prior to adopting due to his fears and nervousness surrounding new people. It will also be essential for any home to be willing to engage and speak to his current placement.

Ice is a healthy boy and is neutered, fully vaccinated, flea & wormed, brucellosis and 4DX tested. Ice does get a runny eye if stressed and does have a hernia, but this doesn’t affect him.
