Zara: female dog to adopt

Published on : 04/02/2023

Name: Zara
D.O.B: 27 June 2019
Gender: Female
Breed: Pure bred GSD
Location: Ayr, Scotland

Zara is a pure bred GSD bread in Romania born on the 27 June 2019 and came into rescue due to her disability. She has been with us in the UK since November 2019 and now we would love to find a very special home for this very special girl.

Zara was born with issues in her hips and the many vets in Romania diagnosed many different things but it was only when she came into our care and seeing our vets (and having more Xrays) that we confirmed that she has the same issues as one of our other wonky dogs.

Zaras hip and ball joints did not form properly so do not stay in place so they move about which she moves. Even though Zara is quite long and tall she still copes well and isn’t in any pain. She loves running round the garden and playing so needs a nice big garden and lots of space. We do have some wheels that can fit her, however as she isn’t actually paralysed her back legs don’t bend and they point forward so don’t work well in a typical cart but there may be different options that can be explored. We do need her home to have an understanding vet who is willing to work with us if necessary for any decisions on her future treatment.

Zara adores loves everybody. She gets on great with most dogs especially little dogs and could potentially live with another small dog. She is not as happy with bigger dogs and can sometimes growl and snap but will never start a fight. She could also live with children and she is a lovely soul.

Zara does have a sensitive stomach which is a common problem in GSDs. She has had lots of tests and there is nothing wrong but it can be a problem keeping weight on her as she doesn’t process food properly. She is on a special diet and takes probiotics at the moment and we are also about to try her on a raw diet to see if this helps. As a result she is skinny. This is a balance for Zara as being lighter helps her get about and having too much weight on her may limit her mobility. Zara is booked in for a dental cleaning later this month as she does have a tendency to hoover up food and sometimes a bit of poop!

Zara is fine on a lead, travels great in the car and happy at the groomers.

Zara would be perfectly happy in a home where she never goes for a walk as long as she has a big garden to run around and people to give her love and attention. She will sit and ask for attention as she loves a cuddle.

If you this  you can  offer Zara the extra special home and family she needs we would really like to hear from you. Please pop onto our website at www.savingandrehomingstrays.org and complete an application form. Please note a home check and £500 adoption fee will apply x
