What should have been just the usual end to a school day turned into something quite unexpected for this school teacher in Ibbenbüren, Germany.

Heartbreaking note

She was coming out of school when she noticed the bright red pet carrier box. Alongside was a bag of cat food and a box containing pet accessories. Before she looked inside the box, the teacher read the note on top.

"I don't know what to do anymore!" said the desperate letter.

It explained that inside the carrier was a 10-year-old indoor cat called Mo, whose owner had recently died. The letter writer shared that they'd tried to take the cat to an animal shelter, but all the shelters were full. The letter then begged for forgiveness.

Sure enough, when the teacher looked inside the carrier, a fluffy grey cat stared back at her. Shocked by her discovery and worried for the cat's wellbeing, the teacher immediately called a local rescue shelter for help.

Help for Mo

Despite the shelter being full to the brim, it managed to find a foster home for Mo where they can stay until they find a forever home.

When the shelter took to Facebook to share Mo's story, it certainly divided opinion. Some said they had sympathy for the letter writer, who sounded like they needed help too and acknowledged that leaving Mo outside the school at that time meant that the cat would be quickly discovered. However, other people weren't so understanding, accusing the person of being heartless and that they should have taken care of the cat themselves

I think that if someone inherited a pet from a dying relative, but can't afford to pay for food, vet bills, toys, accessories , the only responsible thing is to surrender it to an animal shelter ( a NO kill shelter), if they can't find anyone from their family or friends that wants to adopt it. I don't agree though with what the person did.. to leave the animal outside like that is cruel. She should have been more patient and thoughtful , it's a life we're talking about 😩
