The first stage of reforms to the veterinary sector will become legally binding by the end of the year, with clinics being required to make their fees fully transparent.
This will make comparing practices easier for pet owners across the UK, as they will be able to access standardised treatment names, service description and pricing information.
Clearer pricing
Owners will also be told what they will need to pay for out-of-hours treatment as well as being given all end-of-life options including home burial.
Further reforms will be phased in next year, including those relating to prescription fees and information about where owners can buy medicine.

"Today marks a significant milestone in the biggest reform of veterinary services in a generation" explained Martin Coleman of the independent Inquiry Group.
"Our package of reforms will help pet owners better manage their budget and care for their pets, strengthen competition and improve trust in the veterinary sector."
