CCTV captures instant bond between police officer and abandoned puppy

By Elodie Carpentier

While carrying out a routine check at a highway rest area in Ohio, USA, a police officer discovered a young dog locked in a crate and left in the blazing sun. Footage recorded by his body-worn camera has captured a truly heartwarming moment.

During a morning patrol on Interstate 71 in Medina County, Ohio, Officer Kronander from the Ohio State Highway Patrol made an unexpected and deeply moving discovery.

As reported by animal website The Dodo, while inspecting a rest stop, the officer spotted an abandoned puppy inside a crate.

An instant connection

Although the puppy was struggling in the heat and was visibly frightened, the little creature quickly showed signs of curiosity. Bodycam footage shows the pup starting to play through the bars of his crate with an empty plastic water bottle lying nearby.

A new beginning

The officer approached gently and released him from his crate, before moving him safely into the cool, air-conditioned patrol car.

The instant connection between the officer and the pup has melted the hearts of thousands online since the video was shared. After an initial check-up at the local Medina police station, the puppy was handed over to the care of the Medina County SPCA, an animal shelter south of Cleveland.

An investigation has now been launched to try and find the person who abandoned the puppy.
