Emergency services rushed to Cairngorms National Park on Wednesday afternoon, with four fire appliances and specialist wildlife resources sent to the area.
The team told residents to "leave your pets and go", local resident Duncan Ferguson explained, amidst fears of the fire spreading and affecting property in the surrounding area.
No reported casualties
"There are no reported casualties. Due to large volumes of smoke travelling towards populated areas nearby, residents in Aviemore, Glenmore and the surrounding communities should keep their windows and doors closed." explained Group Commander Raymond King.
"If you are within this area and can see or smell smoke, please follow the same advise. While we want people to enjoy the good weather, we ask that anyone in the Cairngorms National Park near to Aviemore and Glenmore avoid the area."
Hundreds evacuated
Homes, businesses and campsites have already been cleared as a precaution, with hundreds evacuated since Wednesday night.
Crews have worked through the night by land and air, but the full impact of the fire is still unknown.
