Man forgets alarm but Maine Coon cat is ready to face three burglars

By Elise Petter

Near Angers, in France, an owner was sleeping peacefully, completely unaware that his cat was on watch and about to become the hero of the night by confronting a group of intruders.

A silent midnight intrusion

It was 5 a.m. in a quiet town near Angers, France, and all was calm inside the house. The owner was sleeping soundly, believing he was perfectly safe. What he didn't realise was that he had forgotten a crucial detail: to set his alarm system before going to bed.

This oversight was quickly noticed by three individuals. They slipped into the property without a sound, moving with professional stealth. Their objective was clear: to find the keys to a powerful Audi RS7 parked outside. Their plan seemed to be going off without a hitch.

But in the bedroom, someone had spotted them. It wasn't a guard dog, but a magnificent Maine Coon, a gentle giant with tufted ears weighing around 22 pounds. Though usually placid and affectionate, the cat instantly sensed that an unusual presence had crept into his home.

Determined to alert his owner, the cat began to meow with unusual insistence. When he saw that his human wasn't waking up, he decided to step things up a notch. In a bold move, he started fussing around a fan until he managed to knock it over.

The metallic crash of the fan hitting the floor jolted the owner from his sleep. Within seconds, he realised that strangers were in his house. Startled by the noise and the light suddenly switching on, the burglars were caught completely off guard.

Panicked by this unexpected turn of events, the three men didn't hang around. They fled without managing to get their hands on the car keys. Thanks to the quick thinking of his four-legged friend, the owner avoided the worst. It just goes to show that the best security system sometimes has claws and a very big heart.
