The poor dogs had never known what it's like to be a dog, having spent years locked away indoors.
Thanks to protests by animal rights activists, 1,500 Beagles were freed from this hellish existence.
A whole new life
Some have already found their forever homes, including a little dog named Juniper. She spent seven years inside and had never experienced life as a pet. She didn't know how to drink from a bowl or eat solid food, so her new owner had to teach her everything.
For the first three days in her new home, all Juniper did was sleep. She was recovering from the immense stress of her years in the lab. Her owner would wake her every four hours to take her outside to relieve herself.
Learning to ask for cuddles
After three days in her new home, Juniper started to show signs of affection towards her owner, even beginning to ask for cuddles. This was an incredibly encouraging step, and her owner immediately stopped whatever she was doing to give Juniper the love and attention she so deserves.
Juniper is in very good hands. Her owner has experience with rescuing dogs from difficult backgrounds and knows that the best gift she can give her right now is time. This will allow Juniper to decompress and slowly find her feet in her new surroundings. We wish them both all the best for the future!
