Kitten with neurological disorder finds no takers, until a kind soul comes to his rescue

By Elodie Carpentier

Born with a neurological disorder affecting his coordination, one little kitten was struggling to find a home.

A litter of kittens, born to a stray cat taken in by a caring owner, were all quickly adopted by loving families. All except one. Little Quakes was left all alone, without a family to call his own.

Realising the kitten needed special attention and care that they couldn't provide, the family made the difficult decision to hand him over to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) in the United States.

It was there that the little cat's fate took a turn for the better. Hannah, a volunteer for the rescue organisation Whiskers-A-Go-Go, came across him and, without a moment's hesitation, decided to foster him.

A neurological condition

Behind Quakes' wobbly steps lies a medical reality: cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). This neurological condition affects the development of his cerebellum, which disrupts his balance and motor coordination, particularly in his hind legs.

When he moves, Quakes sways and stumbles. But this disability does little to dampen the kitten's spirits.

A zest for life

What's most striking about Quakes is how completely unfazed he is by his condition. The kitten doesn't dwell on what he can't do; he's far too busy living life to the full.

His greatest passion? A small ball that he tirelessly chases around the house.

Thanks to Hannah's patience and his own incredible will to live, Quakes is growing and gaining confidence every day. His story, shared by the rescue, is a gentle reminder that animals with special needs often have the richest, most endearing, and unforgettable personalities.
