A holiday that turns into a rescue mission is the start of a beautiful story.

While enjoying a few days' rest in Tumbes, Peru, Luciana and her partner Nils met the gaze of a stray dog. What was meant to be a fleeting encounter turned into a heroic rescue mission across the country.

Luciana and Nils weren't expecting to embark on a rescue mission during their holiday in Peru. Shortly after arriving in Tumbes, a coastal city in the north of the country, the couple sat down on the terrace of their hotel restaurant to plan their week. But their plans were swept away in an instant when they felt a pair of eyes on them.

An unexpected friendship

In front of them stood a stray dog, thin and panting, whose eyes seemed to be pleading for a little kindness.

Over the next few days, the dog, whom they eventually named Marea, became their shadow. She would wait for them outside the hotel every morning and evening. Luciana and Nils began to feed her, play with her, and little by little, they earned her trust.

Even before their trip was over, the decision was made: they couldn't leave Marea behind.

A last-minute miracle

However, the story almost took a tragic turn. On the day of their departure, just as everything was ready for the journey, Marea was nowhere to be found.

Devastated, Luciana went to sleep with one last glimmer of hope. She told her partner that if fate had brought them together, Marea would find a way back. The next morning, as she opened the curtains of their room, a miracle happened. Marea was there, sitting and waiting faithfully outside their window.

The journey home was not without its challenges. After being refused entry onto the bus they were supposed to take, their travel plans had to be completely reorganised to accommodate Marea. But nothing could have stopped Luciana and Nils. The couple succeeded in giving her a new life.
