According to the caller, a puppy was in serious danger. He was trapped on top of a chimney on a house roof and seemed unable to free himself.
When they arrived at the scene, the rescuers spotted the head of a little grey and white puppy on the roof.
A frightened puppy
The little dog looked sad and his coat was dirty. At first, the rescuers thought they could get to him from inside the house. However, they soon realised the building's foundations were unstable and it threatened to collapse at any moment. So, they called the Detroit Fire Department for assistance.
The firefighters arrived as quickly as they could. Instead of trying to reach the dog from inside, they used their long ladder to approach him from the outside. When they finally got close to the puppy, who they later named Stack, the poor little thing was trembling all over. They tried to reassure him by speaking in a soft voice, but they soon realised this only frightened him more.
Safe and sound
Once they had the puppy safely back on solid ground, they noticed that silence seemed to calm him, so they stopped talking. The rescuers believe Stack had been stuck on the chimney for two days.
The Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit then took over the little dog's care. He was examined by a vet and, despite his extremely stressful ordeal, was found to be in surprisingly good health.
On 13th April, a national television channel covered Stack's rescue. By that afternoon, the little dog had been adopted. We are so relieved for Stack and wish him all the best for the future.
