To their astonishment, they found four newborn kittens huddled amongst the leaves in the potting soil.
A surprising discovery
The passers-by searched the area around the flowerpot for the mother cat. Thankfully, they managed to find her wandering the nearby streets.
They posted an appeal for help on social media.
A team of volunteers sprang into action. But in the meantime, the mother cat had moved her kittens to a nearby yard.
A new beginning
So, the rescuers set up a humane trap and placed it near the porch.
After a few hours of waiting, hunger drove the mother cat into the trap.
Once the entire little family was safe, they were taken to the Chatons Orphelins Montréal rescue centre, where a new start awaited them.
However, Hadora, the mother cat, didn't seem to know the comforts of a home; everything was foreign to her. She even refused to eat.
With encouragement from her foster mum, Hadora started to eat, and the wary look in her eyes finally disappeared.
She began to trust her foster mum, allowing her to handle and weigh her kittens.
Hadora spends most of her time nestled with her four babies, rarely leaving their side.
There are three boys and one girl: Zuko (black), Bumi (grey tabby), Mako (a mix of browns), and Azula (also a mix of browns).
Thanks to the kindness of many people, the little family is now thriving in their new life, showered with love, food, and care.
