A downward spiral
Truly's story started well enough. He was adopted in 2022, but his life was turned upside down just a year later when his owners split up. Handed over to his owner’s partner, Truly was then passed on to the man’s elderly mother when he moved into a flat that did not allow pets.
The situation took a critical turn when the mother's landlord discovered the cat. Ordered to get rid of him and with no other options, she placed Truly in a shopping trolley, covered him with plastic bags, and was about to abandon him in the street.
Thankfully, a woman walking through the Crown Heights neighbourhood spotted the cat. As is standard practice, she checked him for a microchip.
The result was instant: the microchip was registered to Whiskers-A-GoGo, the rescue charity where the tomcat had originally been adopted.
When the volunteers from the shelter were contacted, they didn't hesitate for a second. To them, Truly had never stopped being one of their own.
A life-saving microchip
After a thorough veterinary check-up, the cat was placed with a temporary foster family. Withdrawn, fearful, and exhausted by years of instability, Truly took nearly three weeks to build up his confidence again.
Today, the feline has rediscovered his true personality. Playful as ever, he brings his toy mice to his foster carers' feet. Best of all, he has developed a particularly touching habit: when stroked, Truly reaches out with his front paws to clasp the hand of the person he trusts.
