In the state of North Carolina, USA, a litter of puppies was discovered abandoned in a box on the side of a road.
There were seven little puppies in total. They were taken in by volunteers from the Lenoir County SPCA, an organisation dedicated to helping animals in distress.
The puppies were suffering from numerous parasites but were otherwise in fairly good condition. Volunteers immediately began to provide them with the necessary care.
“She has no idea she’s different”
Among the puppies, one in particular caught the rescuers' attention. A little one named Dahlia had an abnormality on one of her front paws. Despite this, the little pup didn't seem to be in any pain and could get around almost as well as her brothers and sisters.
“She has no idea she’s different,” explains a manager at the organisation.
A symbol of resilience
Vets are now working to determine the most suitable treatment to ensure her long-term well-being.
While Dahlia's siblings will soon be ready for adoption, Dahlia herself will have to wait until her veterinary check-ups are complete before she can find her forever home.
For the volunteers who rescued her, Dahlia is a true symbol of resilience.
