In the US city of Waltham, Massachusetts, a rescue operation led by volunteers successfully reunited a mother cat with her six kittens, all thanks to an Apple AirTag.

The story began when local residents reported a pregnant stray cat who was regularly visiting their homes in search of food.

Volunteers from the animal welfare charity, The Cat Connection, were alerted and quickly stepped in. They managed to capture the cat and take her to a vet.

An unexpected discovery

An examination revealed that the cat had already given birth. Faced with this news, the charity had to make a difficult decision: keep the mother safe and risk losing the kittens, or release her in the hope she would lead them to her litter.

An AirTag to the rescue

The volunteers opted for the second option, but with a clever twist. They fitted the mother cat, whom they named Emerald, with a collar equipped with an AirTag. They then released her back where she was found so they could track her movements.

Thanks to the signal, they discovered that the mother cat was heading towards an industrial site and a storage warehouse.

After a meticulous search of the area, two volunteers finally made the discovery they had been hoping for: six hidden kittens.

The kittens, who were about two weeks old, were rescued along with their mother and placed with a foster family. The entire little family is doing well and should be ready for adoption in the coming weeks.
