Late in the evening, they received a report through their website.
Someone had noticed a car parked on the street with "several cats locked inside the car".
A giant litter tray
The person who reported it believed there were about 8 or 10 cats inside. Rescuers went to the scene immediately. As they approached the car, they were unsure what to think, as it didn't look completely abandoned at first glance.
However, when they got closer and peered inside, a foul smell hit them. The car had essentially become a giant litter tray. They were able to count around 20 cats trapped inside the vehicle.
Accepting help
While the rescuers were investigating, some neighbours came out to speak to them. They pointed out the vehicle's owner, who lived in a nearby house.
The owner agreed to open the car and helped the rescuers place the cats into transport carriers. They were all taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
In total, 29 cats were removed from the car. They needed treatment for various infections, but one cat in particular was in a critical condition. Fortunately, it has since received care and is expected to make a full recovery. Most of the cats are now available for adoption, and some have already joined their forever families.
