Daniela Nini Castellini found herself in a nightmare scenario one October day a few years ago. While driving on a country road near Santiago, Chile, all the cars in front of her suddenly started to brake.
When she spotted the small dog running desperately down the country road, Daniela immediately understood the situation and hit the brakes. Filled with compassion, she positioned her car behind the animal and began to follow the frantic dog.
A desperate chase
The poor dog had been coldly abandoned by its owners at the side of the road. It was most likely in an area unfamiliar to him, far from his former home. In Chile, over three million dogs live on the streets, so sadly, this situation is not unusual.
As the car drove away, the little dog didn't know what else to do but chase after it, desperately searching for his humans. He kept running until Daniela finally noticed him.
A life-saving intervention
Daniela couldn't just stand by and watch. Mile after mile, she followed the desperate dog until she finally caught up with him after about three miles. She then pulled over, carefully opened her door, and invited the little dog into her car.
"This little dog was running at full speed, without stopping. I honked the horn and let him follow me calmly for several yards. But he wouldn't stop, so I slammed on the brakes, got out of the car, and picked him up to put him inside," Daniela explained on TikTok.
When she rescued the dog, he was trembling all over. Nevertheless, he allowed her to touch him and bring him to safety. It then became clear that his owners had taken precautions to avoid being found. The dark-coloured, apparently neglected dog had no collar or anything that could provide a clue to his identity.
Back at her home, Daniela tried to calm the exhausted dog. She immediately began looking for a new home for him. "He's such a sweet little guy," she said. "He gets on well with children and people in general. He deserves a loving family who will never abandon him."
Thanks to Daniela's brave intervention, this little dog now has a second chance at a happy life.
