At just two weeks old, a Sphynx kitten arrived at the SPCA Merced rescue centre in California. The poor little thing, named Sammie, seemed to be freezing cold.
He was suffering from a severe respiratory infection, which had caused his left eye to protrude.
Keeping him warm
Despite an uncertain prognosis, the vets decided to fight to save the kitten. Sammie was quickly placed in a foster home, where he began the long battle to gain weight and fight his illness. To help him recover, it was crucial to keep him warm.
A clever solution
Given his tiny size, the staff and volunteers came up with an ingenious idea: they used socks to create little jumpers for him.
This new wardrobe had a real impact on the kitten's health. In just one week, Sammie had put on some weight.
After surgery, Sammie truly turned a corner. Today, he has been adopted by a loving family.
