Lying among the leaves was a lost dog, staring right at him.
The poor dog’s eyes were filled with despair.
A desperate plea for help
Devin didn't know what to do, so he took out his phone and snapped a picture of the dog. He posted the photo on Facebook, asking his community for help. When rescuers from Aviary Creature Rescue saw the picture, they knew they had to do everything in their power to save him. The dog was in a dangerous area of the swamp.
Unfortunately, a storm broke out between the time the rescuers set off and their arrival at the scene. They had to wait for the heavy rain to stop before they could go and get the dog. They were extremely worried he wouldn't survive.
A second chance
Luckily, the dog had taken refuge under a log to try and shelter as best he could. But he had started to lose hope of ever being rescued. When the rescuers approached, he didn't put up a fight. He was severely emaciated and had a deep wound on his back leg.
The rescuers named the dog Devin, in honour of the man who found him. While examining the wound, they noticed bullet fragments: someone had shot the poor dog. Devin has since received treatment and is slowly regaining his strength. The rescue centre is now arranging his adoption, and we wish him all the best for the future!
