It all began when two dogs, Susie and Kila, arrived at the centre.
Susie had been rescued from an overcrowded home, and the team already knew she was expecting puppies.
Two litters in quick succession
The rescuers thought they could plan ahead for the births and arrange all the necessary care. However, they had no idea that Kila was also pregnant and due to give birth just a few days later.
Things escalated quickly when Susie gave birth to 10 puppies. Just six days later, Kila gave birth to an even more impressive litter of 14! This meant the rescue centre had 24 newborns to care for in the space of a single week. Sadly, some of the puppies from both litters did not survive, but 19 healthy little pups are now doing well.
A huge challenge for the team
Susie and Kila are wonderfully attentive mothers, doing their absolute best to make sure their little ones grow up healthy and strong. Susie's puppies have been named Ashara, Enam, Fyra, Iki, Otto, San, and Una. Meanwhile, Kila’s pups are called Cedric, Clark, Cornelius, Guinness, Jones, Lorenzo, Lucille, Marion, Roderick, Sarah, Billie, and Winnie.
They should all be ready for adoption once they are old enough, with rescuers estimating this will be around mid-to-late September 2026.
However, this extraordinary week has come with a significant financial and emotional cost for the shelter. They are now appealing for donations to support their staff and resources. We wish these lovely dogs and their mums a wonderful new life filled with gentleness, play, and lots of love!
