Panic set in within minutes for Ash, an American owner, when she came home to find her dog unable to walk straight. The poor animal could no longer sit down properly and was urinating uncontrollably, leaving his owner completely baffled as to what was wrong.
Ash shared the story on her Threads account, @ashtablunt, explaining that she had immediately rushed her dog to an emergency vet. She said she had *”absolutely no idea”* what could be causing his condition.
An unexpected diagnosis
After several tests and a bill of around $900, the diagnosis was in: the dog had ingested cannabis. More specifically, he had managed to eat some marijuana edibles, consuming an estimated 500 milligrams in total.
In a comment, Ash pointed out that her dog had never been one to chew on or steal things, which made the incident all the more baffling to her.
Fortunately, the vet quickly reassured the owner that her dog was going to be fine. He was put on an IV drip for several hours and received intravenous lipids, a common treatment for poisoning.
An increasingly common problem
Ash's post quickly sparked a lot of reaction. Within a few days, it had received over 11,000 likes, 2,200 comments and 1,000 shares. Many owners shared similar experiences, which helped to show just how common the situation is.
Among them, some recounted how they had also panicked before discovering their dog had ingested cannabis. Meanwhile, an emergency veterinary nurse confirmed that these cases are extremely common, so much so that they are nicknamed ‘pot dogs’ in some clinics.
