In a video posted on 25th August, he explained that he was just supposed to be making a quick trip to the local tip.
But the trip didn't go as planned. When they arrived, Nimiyikowin and his friend discovered an abandoned puppy amongst the rubbish, fighting for survival all alone.
Safe at last
Nimiyikowin explained on TikTok that they decided to take the puppy home to give him a "proper home".
The little pup didn't hesitate to go with them.
In the following clips, the pup can be seen snuggled up in a cosy blanket, while his new dad gently strokes his head.
The puppy can finally rest easy: he is safe.
Finding the perfect name
In the caption, they asked their followers to help them choose a name.
People were quick to respond in the comments:
"Imagine only knowing trash and sharp rocks your whole life, then being held by something so warm and soft and swaddled in comfort while the sun warms you and someone scratches your head," one person wrote.
Another added: "Of course he didn't fight. He was waiting for you two to show up."
After sifting through suggestions like Rubble, Leaf, Kenai, and Oscar, the couple revealed the name they had chosen for the newest member of their family. "We named him Oci!" Nimiyikowin wrote in the comments.
