The team needed a FLIR thermal imaging camera to help them spot animals in need during the night.
With night falling much earlier in winter, this tool would make their searches easier, helping them to save more lives than usual.
A successful mission
They raised enough money to buy the FLIR camera, and the equipment arrived just in time. In March 2023, they responded to a call from a worried lorry driver in St. Louis. He had stopped for a break in a park and found a puppy in a plastic tub on top of a bin. When the rescuers arrived on the scene, it was pitch black and the puppy was no longer in the tub.
Fortunately, the rescuers had the right piece of kit! They got out the FLIR camera and began scanning the park. A few moments later, an orange and yellow spot appeared on the screen, huddled at the back of a wooded area. The rescuers headed towards the spot and discovered the little brown puppy.
A new chance
The team took the puppy straight to the SRSL veterinary clinic, where he was diagnosed with a debilitating case of parvovirus. After a few weeks of daily care, the puppy, named Flir, started to gain weight and become more active. By the end of the month, Flir was well enough to be placed in a foster home.
A few weeks later, Flir found his forever family! He is now called Oliver and enjoys outdoor adventures and sofa cuddles with his new parents. He is thriving alongside them and his canine sister, Poppy!
The rescuers extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated: "We would NEVER have found him without the FLIR camera! Thank you to everyone who contributed. Because of you, he has a fighting chance."
