Puppies found zipped in a bag sparks illegal trafficking probe

On Friday, 9th January, in the town of Brétigny-sur-Orge, France, some dog walkers made a heartbreaking discovery.

While out on their walk, they spotted an abandoned sports bag.

From inside the zipped-up bag, they could hear strange, muffled noises.

A shocking discovery

The bag also seemed to be moving on its own. They decided to open it, never imagining what they would find inside: five absolutely terrified Dachshund puppies.

The poor puppies were dehydrated and terrified. They were also showing clear signs of breathing difficulties; no one knows how long they had been trapped inside that bag.

An ongoing investigation

The dog walkers immediately took the puppies to the nearest veterinary clinic. They then alerted rescuers from the Action Protection Animale (APA) charity, who acted swiftly. The charity contacted the police, and an investigation has been opened to find the person responsible for this terrible act of animal cruelty. A formal complaint was filed on 10th January.

What alerted the rescuers was a similar incident that occurred in the same area earlier in January, when other Dachshund puppies were also found abandoned. The charity believes this could be part of an illegal dog trafficking ring.

Fortunately, the pups are now doing well. Two of them have already found their forever homes, and there have been many adoption applications for the others. We wish them all the best for the future.
