On the 5th of December, the team at Polk County Bully Project in Lakeland, Florida, were faced with a heartbreaking case of abandonment.

A dog was discovered locked in a crate by the roadside, near the entrance to the rescue centre.

The team was shocked to find her right at their entrance, especially as they could have taken her in and kept her warm, instead of her being left all alone.

A terrified dog

The poor dog, named Clio, was completely terrified when the rescuers arrived. They also discovered a handwritten note that read: "Her name is Clio. She is a good dog. Please find her a home. I'm sorry."

No one knows the reasons for her sad abandonment. The rescuers took Clio into their care. They mentioned on Facebook that the dog was lovely and seemed to have been well looked after in her previous life.

Hoping for a forever home

Shortly after her arrival, the rescuers had Clio spayed. Despite her difficult start, Clio is now being showered with affection by the shelter staff. She is safe and can finally let her true personality shine through.

On the 29th of December, the team expressed their surprise on Facebook that she hadn't found a family yet. She is an adorable dog who gets along well with both other dogs and cats. Clio loves cuddles and is just waiting for one thing: to give a family all the love she has to offer!
