One day, a ginger and white cat slipped out of a first-floor window of his home. When he tried to get back inside the flat, his owner wouldn't let him in.
All alone in the world
The cat wandered around his home for weeks, waiting for his owner to let him back in. But it never happened.
Neighbours started feeding him, but they knew the storm season was approaching and wanted to get him to safety.
A volunteer rescuer from Little Wanderers NYC in the United States rushed to find the cat.
Galante was timid and hid in the bushes, keeping his distance from the rescuer.
A clever rescue
So, the rescuer set a humane trap with some food inside.
After a short wait, Galante emerged from his hiding place and began to inspect the trap.
He didn't resist for long, as he was very hungry.
Once the rescuer had the tomcat safely secured, he took him to the vet for a check-up.
When Shane and Becca, a cat-loving couple, heard about Galante's story and his need for a foster home, they immediately stepped in to help.
Love at first sight
The couple fell in love with Galante, who looked just like their own cat, Reggie.
They gave him the space he needed to feel safe, while speaking to him softly to get him used to their voices.
Slowly but surely, Galante came out of his shell to explore his new home.
He was delighted with the soft blankets and all the cuddles. He is very affectionate and sociable, and loves looking out of the window. He also gets on very well with other cats.
Galante is now settled and will never have to worry about where he'll sleep at night again!
