He had his black and white cat, Shadow, with him in the car.
Jeremy took a short break at Liard Hot Springs Park in British Columbia, Canada.
A devastating disappearance
That's when the worst happened... Shadow suddenly vanished, and Jeremy had no idea which way his beloved cat had run.
Jeremy was frantic. He searched the entire area, leaving behind his scent and Shadow's food bowl, but there was no sign of his cat. Heartbreakingly, Jeremy had to get back on the road and head home. He was devastated to tell his two sons that Shadow was missing.
Even from a distance, Jeremy never gave up searching for Shadow. He shared photos of his cat on social media and contacted local vets and rescue centres.
A miraculous reunion
Then, five months later, Jeremy received a phone call that changed everything! The park rangers at Liard Hot Springs had found his cat. Miraculously, Shadow was in good health, having survived all alone in the freezing cold of the Northern Rockies.
Now, the challenge was to get Shadow home. Two volunteers offered to help reunite Shadow with his family, driving for eight hours to take him to the airport.
Shadow will soon be flying to meet his owner. After that, they have a 16-hour drive to get home for good. What wonderful news – Shadow will be spending Christmas warm and safe with his family!
