On 30th October, the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) received a heartbreaking message.

A passer-by had discovered a puppy abandoned in a cardboard box. He was barely breathing.

The poor little dog was extremely thin and freezing cold.

Frozen to the bone

The rescuers didn't hesitate for a single second to help. Even though they'd been warned that the little dog was in poor health, they were shocked to discover him in an even worse state than they'd imagined. He was so cold that the thermometer couldn't even register his temperature!

The rescuers immediately warmed him up with heat sources: warm towels, a heating pad, warm drinks and a heated blanket... Despite all their efforts, the team couldn't manage to maintain the puppy's temperature.

Life-threatening emergency

The rescuers therefore decided to transfer him to a care centre overnight. They named the puppy Renlo and hoped that the 24-hour assistance would help warm the little dog up. Fortunately, Renlo survived the night and was able to return to the shelter to continue his treatment.

Gradually, his condition began to improve. After 3 days, he was able to go for a little walk. The entire team was mobilised to meet his needs. A week after his rescue, a foster family offered to take him in so he could build up his strength in the comfort of a home.

Renlo settled into his foster family quickly and is thriving there. He still has a bit of a way to go to regain weight and strength, but the love he receives in his home fills him with happiness. The rescuers are very grateful and are following his progress very closely. We wish him all the best for the future!
