Thousands of metres below the surface, a group of deep-sea divers were left in disbelief, after they encountered a cartoon-like fish.
The species, from the Liparidae family, has been recorded at a staggering depth of 8,000 metres, even reaching the heart of the Mariana Trench.
A breathtaking encounter
At an impressive depth of 2,788 metres, deep-sea explorers were amazed when they spotted a snailfish.
Calmly minding its own business, the little creature seemed totally unfazed by the presence of the divers.
Stunning footage
Through the lens of an underwater drone, explorers from the YouTube channel 'EVNautilus' were able to capture the rare sighting.
Described by the scientists as "ugly-cute", the sea creature's face bore a striking resemblance to that of a puppy.
"How did you get to be so cute", one of the divers can be heard asking.
"It's showing us its tummy, almost like a puppy", the other diver replies.
The snailfish, with its unique beauty, appeared equally intrigued by the presence of the strange device that had found it. It was a magical encounter- a silent exchange between two very different worlds.
