Bri Smith initially thought the noise was a bird but soon discovered it was something entirely different.
Curious, she followed the sounds to a pile of rubble near her street.
Unexpected discovery!
To her surprise, Bri found a tiny kitten wedged between concrete blocks. Enlisting her husband's help, she managed to coax the frightened animal out.
As they celebrated their success, another kitten suddenly dashed towards them from the same debris.
Concerned there could be more, Bri returned to the rubble and uncovered a third kitten, this one with only three legs.
More surprises
The couple brought the kittens home and contacted local animal welfare groups to assist further.
A trap set near the rubble revealed more surprises: the kittens' mother and another sibling. The mother, a well-known stray regularly fed by neighbours, was captured, sterilised and later returned to her familiar streets.
The kittens are now safe and awaiting adoption through local shelters.
Fortunately, this feline family had a happy ending, all thanks to Bri and her husband's swift and thoughtful actions.
