Without seeing it can be hard to tell. Cats are very adventurous and mischievous so the scab you are talking about could Be a graze from a misjudged jump or bump, it could also be down a scrap he/ she had whilst exploring!
Monitor its healing and if you remain concerned have it checked out at your local vets.
