Gunner: male dog to adopt

Published on : 01/07/2025

Gunner is a hyper energetic boy who is always on the move, he has bundles of energy and would love an active home with someone who can take him exploring for miles often, no matter how muddy and wet it is. Gunner is a typical Spaniel who loves to play ball and can play for hours. He will always find a ball when on walks and when playing fetch he will always bring the ball to your feet. Even though Gunner is a happy chap and is always wagging his tail, he is not keen on being over-fussed and likes his own space.

Outside the home Gunner is a little poser and will pose for a photo and will even perform some of his tricks for a treat. However, in the home Gunner does not have manners and will jump and sleep on the sofa and bed if he wants too. The best way to overcome this is to bribe him with a treat to get him off any other way to remove him or to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do results in him becoming vocal and stressed. Gunner can be stubborn and determined to do what he wants when he is in a certain mood, and this is something that would need to be worked on. When Gunner is on a wind down in the evenings, he will happily sit with you for a cuddle and stroke but not to be overfussed.

As you can tell by Gunner’s mop head of hair, he is not a fan of the groomers or being groomed. Gunner had a traumatic experience with this in the past so now he is very fearful and suspicious when something is happening to his fur. Everything must be done in stages and for short periods of time to work up building the trust to allow him to have a full proper groom. In Summer, we usually would shave him down so it’s all done and stress free for him, then his fur can grow back nice and fluffy ready for winter. Gunner loves the sound of his own voice and will be vocal for attention, food and even for walks.

Sadly, Gunner is not good with other animals especially Cats so would be looking for a pet free home. Gunner is looking for an active experienced adult only home, with someone who has the time and patience to put in the training Gunner needs in the home.
