Ash and his siblings arrived in the UK on the 15th September after beginning their life in the shelter. They were born after their mother was rescued as a heavily pregnant stray, and although their first few months were spent in a shelter they were surrounded by love and care, a far cry from what would have been the case had they been born on the streets.
Unfortunately, Ash’s introduction to the UK has been difficult for him to navigate. Of his siblings, he’s a little more anxious, and we have found that his surrounding home environment is proving just too much for him to cope with. He is struggling to settle and become more stressed, and we don’t want him to become a fearful dog so collectively we feel Ash needs to be rehomed to a different kind of home.
At the moment, Ash is the only dog in the household, he lives with two young children, and his home is situated near three local schools. The noise from the playgrounds reaches the garden and Ash finds this quite nerve-wracking, and in the home where children are simply being children, he equally struggles to relax. With adults, Ash is a different dog.
We are seeking, as soon as possible, an adult only home (or home with teenagers) in a calmer location and with a slightly more relaxed home atmosphere. Ash has also never been without other dogs until three weeks ago, so he may really benefit from a friend who can boost his confidence and provide some reassurance. He is an extremely intelligent puppy with a sweet and sensitive nature, and when relaxed he is so loving, affectionate and friendly. He loves nothing more than cuddling with his humans on the sofa and forms strong bonds with those he trusts.
Ash loves a pigs ear or stinky chew to chill out with and enjoys playing with his toys and zooming around the garden. He loves a good sniff to find treats in his snuffle mat or shred an egg box with treats hidden inside. He is very food motivated and has been quick to train some basic commands. He can sit, come and recognises his name. He has started to paw at the door to ask to go out if he needs a wee, and is learning leave and off commands. He’s even learning to dig on command in an area of the garden where he’s allowed!
In a quieter home where Ash can decompress properly and start to settle, we think he will blossom. He has loads of potential to learn new things and is very eager to engage with training, so it would be ideal for his new family to continue working with him on this. Ash’s slightly more reserved nature was masked when he was part of a litter, but now his individual needs are much more clear. He needs a patient, loving family who can help teach him that the world is not a scary place. He is very much still a baby and has navigated a lot of changes over the past few weeks, but given time and reassurance, and a more fitting environment, we’re sure Ash will overcome this.
Ash is currently based in High Barnet, London (EN5) and has a clean bill of health. He is looking for a new foster or forever home as soon as possible.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
