Abandoned kitten presses his paw against a glass door, until someone finally opens it

A lonely kitten at the glass door

Jitsu is a tiny grey kitten who was left all alone outside, with no one to protect him. A video of his discovery shows him sitting in front of a glass door, holding one tiny white paw against the pane. It was as if he already knew safety lay on the other side and just needed someone to open up. At an age when he should have been chasing toys and sleeping on laps, he was learning how to survive. "This baby should be chasing toys, not searching for safety," Gissell, from rescue organisation Paws of Hope NYC in the US, told LoveMeow.

A loving foster family steps in

Thankfully, someone stepped up for Jitsu. A foster family saw him and realised they couldn't leave him to fend for himself. They decided to give him a real chance and welcomed him into their home. For Gissell, what separates a rescue story from a tragedy often comes down to one simple thing: someone stepping in just in time.

Finally learning to be a kitten again

In his foster home, Jitsu can finally relax, feeling safe and cherished for the very first time in his life. He has toys to roll across the floor, soft blankets to snuggle up on, and humans who come running whenever he calls out. He is thriving more and more every day. His foster family discovered that he is endlessly patient when dressed up. One day he poses in a bandana, and the next in a tiny cowboy hat! He even hunts his feather toy with the determination of a cat twice his size.

Ready for his next chapter

Jitsu has now been neutered, brought up to date with all his vet care, and is ready for the next chapter of his life. He is enjoying his very first autumn surrounded by pumpkins and cosy blankets. His only job these days is lounging among the decorations and waiting for his next meal.

Jitsu spent his earliest days reaching out with a paw against a glass door. Today, he is warm, safe, and loved.
