The cat was used to spending his summer holidays with his grandparents in Crusnes.
But in the summer of 2023, Rösti managed to escape from his carrier and vanished into the wild.
Vanished without a trace
His family searched absolutely everywhere for him, but there was no sign of the cat. Two and a half years later, residents of the town of Ranguevaux reported seeing a stray cat near a main road.
A rescuer named Jeanne Willette heard about the stray from a friend and decided to lend her a microchip scanner. Her friend's children had managed to get close enough to the cat to stroke him. Thanks to the scanner, they discovered that the cat had an owner: it was Rösti!
A family reunion
Jeanne was in shock. She realised the cat had been missing and sought by his family for two and a half years! The rescuer didn't hesitate for a second and contacted the cat's family straight away. Then, she went to the location to try and approach the cat herself.
Rösti was happy to come to her, but he was wary of the carrier. Fortunately, with the help of another rescuer, they managed to get him to safety.
Finally, on Friday 5th June 2026, Rösti, who had been on the run all this time, was reunited with his family, safe and sound. Once again, this incredible rescue shows just how important it is to have an up-to-date microchip!
