A driver accused of killing an 82-year-old motorist in Switzerland has chosen a very peculiar line of defence.
According to the news site 20 Minutes, a 43-year-old woman was driving on a motorway when she was involved in a head-on collision with Barbara Welberg's car.
Was a dog treat to blame?
When arrested by the police, the woman claimed that her dog had grabbed the steering wheel while trying to get a treat.
She explained that as she tried to regain control of her vehicle, she hit the verge of the motorway. This caused her to swerve and collide with the 82-year-old's car.
A history of dangerous driving
Although the woman did not test positive for alcohol, her partner suggested she may have an addiction to prescription medication. She had already been involved in at least three cases of impaired driving over the past ten years.
