In the latest episode of her podcast, Khloé In Wonder Land, the 41-year-old reality TV star revealed she had her two cats, Grey Kitty and Baby Kitty, declawed—a choice she now calls a monumental mistake prompted by "bad advice".
An irreversible decision and deep regrets
The two cats, originally adopted for her daughter True, underwent the procedure when the businesswoman was new to cat ownership. "I was given really bad advice," she admitted emotionally. "I'd never had cats before. I didn't even know it was a thing. I feel terrible that I went in that direction." She added that the surgery had made her cats "miserable".
Now, the absence of their claws has left the star in a state of constant paranoia. Deprived of their natural defences, the cats are monitored around the clock: "My cats wear AirTags; they're not even allowed near a door. I'm so scared of them getting out because they have no way to defend themselves. They've lost their protective tools, and it makes me so sad."
A controversial procedure with lasting consequences
Khloé Kardashian's admission shines a light on the dangers of declawing (medically known as an onychectomy). Contrary to what many people think, the procedure doesn't just involve removing the nail; it means amputating the last bone of each of the cat's toes.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) strongly discourages this non-therapeutic practice, highlighting that scratching is a natural and essential behaviour for cats. It allows them to stretch, mark their territory, and defend themselves. An onychectomy causes severe acute and chronic pain. Reflecting a growing awareness of the issue, six US states (including California and New York) and numerous large cities have now banned the practice outright in recent years.
Deep regrets and major problems
On top of this trauma, the star is also dealing with major behavioural problems at home. Introducing the second cat, Baby Kitty, unsettled the older one, Grey Kitty, who began urinating on the beds in protest. After setting up security cameras, Khloé Kardashian discovered that the second cat had started to copy this destructive behaviour.
In desperation, the celebrity even called in an animal psychic, who advised her... to buy a pink litter tray to ease the tension. It was a bizarre suggestion that the star refused to follow. Between managing her two cats and the recent arrival of her Labrador, Peppermint, at Christmas 2025, Khloé Kardashian's family life remains eventful. However, her message on declawing will at least serve to raise awareness about this mutilation among her huge following.
