In the canine world, there are those who eat elegantly, and then there's Gracie. During a special event organised by the Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home, located near Saguaro National Park in Arizona, USA, the residents were treated to a little something sweet: pots of ice cream specially made for dogs.
While some of her fellow dogs took their time, savouring each lick with exemplary politeness, 16-year-old Gracie chose a radically different approach.
An all-or-nothing approach
Balancing on her hind legs, this Pug mix literally "devoured" her dessert. In no time at all, the pot was licked completely clean.
For the shelter staff, seeing Gracie show so much appetite and zest for life is a victory.
A second chance at life
Gracie's fate could have been much darker. Due to her advanced age and various health problems, she was initially scheduled to be put down. But that was before Old Souls stepped in, an organisation that specialises in taking in elderly, special needs, or end-of-life animals.
Having arrived at the rescue a year ago, Gracie has become living proof that older dogs still have a huge amount of love and energy to give. "She is proof that senior dogs still have a lot of life left to live," highlights an article by Parade Pets.
