Box left at shelter: volunteers find a heartbreaking drawing inside

The staff at Pet Haven rescue centre weren't expecting such a shock. Inside a simple cardboard box lay the heartbreaking farewell of a family in distress.

The incident happened last February in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The manager of the rescue centre's veterinary clinic was just heading out to her car when she noticed a strange cardboard box. It was sealed and had been left by the entrance. Unfortunately, the terrified cat inside managed to escape before the staff member could get to it.

The volunteers immediately set a trap to catch him. As they examined the empty box, their hearts sank. Inside was a cosy bed and some delicately placed flowers. On one of the flaps, the name "Aovyzoyl" was written in large blue letters, alongside a small, child-like drawing.

A heartbreaking goodbye

For the Pet Haven team, the details were unmistakable. This cat was deeply loved. "We were all devastated," a representative from the rescue centre shared. "To realise that this family probably couldn't even afford a proper carrier to keep their pet safe is just heartbreaking."

For hours, the team members held their breath as they watched the security cameras. Then, at 1:30 in the morning, a miracle happened: the cat, now named Ayzal, reappeared. He walked into the trap, safe and sound. A wave of joy and relief swept through the rescue centre.

A promise for life

After 36 hours, Ayzal began to relax. The timid cat transformed into a real purr machine, affectionately head-butting his rescuers. The rescue centre has promised to find him the perfect family, while always being his safety net if he ever needs it.

In a moving message posted on Facebook, the rescue centre addressed the former owners directly: "To the family who left Ayzal with us... your companion is safe for life. He will always have a loving home." The volunteers hope this message reaches those who, with a broken heart, had to make such an impossible choice.
